The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is Ayodhya’s pride. Dedicated to the Hindu god, Lord Rama, the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is the original Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus.
After decades of struggle, the temple’s construction finally began in August 2020 and is expected to be ready by the start of 2024. Once complete, the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple would be a massive attraction due to its history, architectural style, and sheer size.
The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is under construction. When completed, it will become an important pilgrimage site in India and a symbol of Hindu faith and pride. The temple complex will cover nearly 2.7 acres of land, with the Ram Mandir Complex occupying almost 70 acres.
The temple will be spread over 54,700 square feet, enough to host about a million devotees at once. The carved Rajasthan Bansi Paharpur stone, known for its beauty and strength, is being used for the superstructure of the Ram Mandir. Four lakh square feet of stone has been ordered for the temple’s construction.
The stone has been used in the Akshardham Temple, the Parliament Complex, and the Lal Quila of Agra.
Standing at 161 feet, the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple will become one of India’s highest temples. It is being built in the Nagara style and follows the principles of Vastu Shastra. The entrance, which will be on the east, is being built in the Gopuram style, like the temples of the south. Ram Mandir’s sanctorum will be octagonal-shaped, and the structure perimeter would be circular.
Five domes and one tower, having a height of 161 feet, would also be part of Ram Mandir’s exterior. The temple would have three floors, and the centre, called Garbh Griha, will allow sun rays to fall on the Ram Lalla, the infant embodiment of the Lord, idol. The other idol of Lord Ram will be a massive statue visible from a long distance. Finally, the temple walls would be decorated with artwork depicting the life of Lord Ram.
Chandrakant Bhai Sompura, whose grandfather, Prabhakarji Sompura, designed the Somnath Temple, is the chief architect of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Construction major Larsen & Toubro is building the main structure, while Tata Consultancy Engineers Ltd. is overseeing the allied facilities.
The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was inaugurated on 22 January 2024 and is now open for devotees,
